FULL STORY:

Friday July 23rd, 2004 at 1:05pm, at 222 KING STREET EAST and Sherbourne, in Toronto Canada, the eight oil paintings above were STOLEN from the art gallery BIBIANNE previously owned by Nicole Potvin.  Artist Rosemary Cosentino, had barely walked into the gallery and deposited the works down on the main street level floor of the gallery, which were packaged in a large burgundy vinyl tarp portfolio bag, when she walked upstairs to greet the Director of the gallery.  When she descended to the main floor approximately 10 minutes later, the burgundy bag containing the artworks was gone.  This barbaric act is incomprehensible.  No one was seen leaving the gallery with the work.  Whomever has committed this crime, was either looking to make a quick dollar, or decorate his/her home.  Because of the size, and weight of the bag, suspect is believed to be a male.  The individual could not have gone very far on foot, and may have hailed a nearby taxi to escape.

This was an extremely devastating moment for the artist, a year and one half of labor & sacrifices works and inventory are gone.

I have decided to state the true facts to what really happened. I was threatened by Nicole Potvin to keep my mouth shut about the situation as she did not want to be associated with it. She told me that I could not have my works insured with her because I was not on her artist roster. So I travelled all the way from Montreal with all my works for a scandle??? Of course I was going to be part of the roster! She was covering herself! Who knows if she even had insurance for all the art in her gallery! All professional galleries have INSURANCE! I was so traumatized I could not reflect well during the incident and when she told me this. I should have had insurance coverage no matter what! She called police during my time there and said to them that a "client had her purse stolen in her store". Is that a priority or a cover up? Instead of saying," there is an artist who just had 8 oil paintings stolen in my gallery". She gave me excuses later in email harassment that she was well respected in the neighborhood. That everything the detective told me was not true. Who would I believe? A Detective or her? Her threats were so pathetic accusing me of defamation. Just because I emailed everyone on my mailing list about the incident. It got back to her and she twisted things around. Totally wanted to pretend it never happened. When you speak the truth and have witnesses, it's not defamation! And it's all in the police report.

I have come to also know that she closed her doors filing banruptcy and putting many artists in ruins. She fled with the money she owed and whatever artwork was in her gallery she took with her! One artist was brave enough to take her to court and he won. I have reported this incident to all authorities and art circles both in Canada and the USA. She will never be able to open another gallery and defraud any artist again.

If anyone knows her whereabouts, please contact me. She has disappeared conveniently. ARTISTS UNITE! Let's help each other!
